Association of CGD Entities

ACE participation on the launch of TERI’s Study on Comparative Assessment of Vehicular Fuels in India’s Energy Transition – A Multi-dimensional Approach on 30th Sep 2026

The Association of CGD Entities (ACE) was pleased to participate and contribute its perspectives to TERI’s “Study on Comparative Assessment of Vehicular Fuels in India’s Energy Transition – A Multi-dimensional Approach.”

The study, which examines different vehicular fuel options through multiple dimensions, provides important insights into India’s evolving mobility landscape and the need for a balanced approach towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation.

Recognising the Need for Cleaner Mobility

ACE extends its sincere gratitude to Shri Tarun Kapoor, Advisor to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, for releasing the report and sharing his valuable perspectives on the growing imperative of addressing air pollution and advancing cleaner and sustainable mobility solutions across India.

He appreciated the initiative of PNGRB in facilitating this important study by TERI, with support and contributions from industry stakeholders. He also highlighted the importance of evidence-based assessments in providing valuable inputs to policymakers and decision-makers as India shapes its future mobility and clean-energy pathways.

A Technology-Neutral Policy Framework

Speaking at the event, Shri Subhash Kumar, Director General, ACE, emphasised the need for an evidence-based and technology-neutral policy framework that ensures a level playing field across cleaner mobility options.

He highlighted the importance of appropriate policy support and incentivisation for cleaner fuels such as CNG, CBG/Biogas and LNG, with policy decisions guided by factors including environmental performance, affordability, infrastructure readiness and contribution to India’s energy security.

Such an approach can also support the national vision of increasing the share of natural gas in India’s energy mix from around 6% to 15%.

No Single Solution for India’s Diverse Mobility Needs

One of the key takeaways from the study is that no single fuel or technology can be the universal solution for India’s diverse mobility requirements.

Different vehicle segments and applications require differentiated solutions. The study recognises CNG as a deployment-ready option while also highlighting the importance of supporting electrification alongside cleaner gaseous fuels such as CNG and CBG.

A balanced and technology-neutral policy framework can therefore play an important role in building a resilient, low-carbon and energy-secure transport system for India.

No Single Solution for India’s Diverse Mobility Needs

India’s energy transition will require collaboration among policymakers, regulators, research institutions and industry stakeholders. Evidence-based studies such as TERI’s provide an important foundation for informed policymaking and for evaluating different mobility pathways on their environmental, economic and strategic merits.

ACE remains committed to working with all stakeholders towards a cleaner, affordable, sustainable and energy-secure mobility ecosystem for India.
